Mandrel bending

Mandrel bending means the process of tube bending with the installed and used mandrel. More information about mandrel you can check at this section.
Normally it is made on tube bending machine with the possibility to use mandrel (mandrel tube bending machine).

Advantages of mandrel bending are the possibilities to achieve the bending of radiuses with the proper quality which could be not performed without the use of mandrel.

Mandrel bending is the one of main draw tube bending processes.

Necessity to use mandrel

Normally mandrel could be used even for the tube bending when it is not necessary to do it so with the mandrel bending you will be more sure that the quality will be achieved.

The second basic principle as theory which is used in tube bending industry is the necessity to use mandrel for bending radiuses less than 3-4D.

Anyway there is complete chart to determine theoretically the necessity to use mandrel and the type and construction of mandrel to use.

This table is based on 2 parameters: wall factor index and hardness of bending index. If you know it both you can determine the use of mandrel for your tube.

Number in table means the necessary quantity of mandrel balls to use.
P - Standard plug mandrel (without balls)
CP - close pitch mandrel execution with minimal space between balls

Hardness of bending index
